My Ocean by Pat Tsang

My Ocean

“Why don’t you buy an e-reader (electronic digital book reader)?  It’s different from reading on a tablet.  Trust me, you would love it.”    My husband said.

Even though my husband had said it repeatedly, I didn’t buy his idea.  I need a good reason to justify my spending. But finally, the time has come.

“ Alex told us that she reads 6 hours a day! I read too little; I want to read more.”  I told my husband after the Heart & Parcel meeting.

Now I have found my reason to buy an e-reader: the more I read, the stronger the reason I have to justify my spending.  That is the day I made up my mind.

Besides, I also found another good reason.  I thought an e-reader would help me store my favorite books.  I used to have “my collection” before.  They were hard copies and displayed on my bookshelves. However, I had thrown them away before I came here (I wish I had not done it).  Anyway, what I can do now to rectify this mistake is to collect my favourite books again, one by one. An e-reader can help me store hundreds of them.

Because of these two reasons, today I have an e-reader in my hand.  I love it so much that I use it every single day.  This device has also changed my life : now I read books instead of watching Netflix before going to bed.  The e-reader is like an ocean to me.

By jumping into the ocean of books, I feel free again : no more language barriers (when I read in Chinese), and no more national boundaries (when I read the books written by authors from all over the world).

Oh Pat, I feel your pain – I mean about having to throw books away and the regretting it. I find it sooo hard to let go off books.

I love your ocean metaphor – that is exactly what a good book is like to me, it transports me to another world, takes me on a voyage of discovery! A beautiful blog!

I love the way you call your e-reader an ocean! It’s true!!! They bring so much freedom. I think you have described this freedom perfectly!

This is Alex, by the way. My husband didn’t believe me when I said that I read 6 hours a day so I thought I should clarify. I read to help me fall asleep. But I often get insomnia so I read during the night.
